Nestled among some of the city’s best restaurants and historic landmarks, Old Metropolitan Hall embodies the heart of Charlottesville. Featuring original tin ceiling tiles from the early 1900’s and lovingly restored architectural details, Old Met comprises two floors designed with celebrating in mind!

Opened in early 2013, Old Metropolitan Hall is a beautifully restored historic event and wedding venue in downtown Charlottesville, Virginia. We’ve created an elegant, private event space designed to provide you with a polished setting for your special occasion or business event. We work with Charlottesville caterers and event vendors to bring your social and corporate events to life! Our ballroom, bar cellar, and seasonal outdoor patio are the perfect spaces for your cocktail party, wedding reception, rehearsal dinner or private party.
Elegant and versatile, Old Metropolitan Hall features an expansive upstairs ballroom displaying aged wood floors, 14 ft ceilings adorned with their original antique tin tiles, and white-washed walls, all exquisitely lit with era-inspired glass chandeliers. Whether dressed in white linen and cascading florals or with rustic details and our hand-crafted farm tables, Old Metropolitan Hall provides the perfect venue for your wedding, rehearsal dinner, gala, fundraiser, reception, or next unique event.
Downstairs opens up into a more intimate space with black and white diamond flooring, a custom built-in copper bar, exposed wooden beams, and enough room for your DJ or band. Our downstairs bar is fully equipped with a functioning sink, ice machine, fridge, and wine cooler. The cellar is the perfect space for your cocktail hour, post-dinner desserts, or dancing the night away!
If you are looking for a place to host a smaller, more intimate, breakfast, lunch meeting or dinner, the 101 Library is perfect. Think “Situation Room”, the 101 Library is a hidden secret under the mall and often used for board meetings, private lunches/dinners, or VIP guests. The rental fee for the space (not including food) is $150 during the week and $250 during the weekends. Included in the rental rate:
- Hidden room with tables and chairs
- 55” TV for presentations (HDMI/Apple TV Connectivity)
- Audio System
- Private Restroom
A favorite feature of ours at Old Metropolitan Hall is the outdoor patio. Our patio is a private space dedicated just for your event. This space can comfortably hold around 40-50 people and provides your guests the opportunity to converse amidst the Downtown Mall!
Reservations & Deposits
Interested in having your event at Old Metropolitan Hall? All we need is a signed contract and the required deposit!
–A 50% deposit of the full rental rate is due at the signing of the contract. The 50% deposit is applied to the total of the rental and the remaining balance is due 30 days prior to the event, as well as a security deposit based on the size of the event.
–The security deposit is held until after the event and returned within 2 weeks after the event if no damages have occurred. Any damage above the security deposit will be billed to the responsible party.
Night Time Rentals
Old Metropolitan Hall is available for private events every evening! Please reach out (434-260-7144) to inquire about the date you wish to host your event. We do offer NPO rates to those that apply for events Sunday – Wednesday.

Day Time Rentals
Old Metropolitan Hall is available for rent Sunday – Wednesday during the day (before 5PM). Day time rental rates and information can be found on our Corporate Events page!
